As some of you may know, I am visiting a friend on a film set in India. I was lucky enough to spend the entire day on set yesterday, and though it was incredibly hot and dusty, it was still pretty amazing. The film stars Josh Hartnett, and a VERY famous Bollywood stay called Bipasha, and is set in the late 1700’s. I had the dubious honour of sitting in for Bipasha during camera rehearsals, so have found my calling here not as a wardrobe assistant, but as a “warm prop”. Ah, such is life.
After a long gruelling day an onset Chai wallah, brings around a tray of biscuits and little paper cups of Chai. I must say that despite the heat (40) it was a most welcome drink. Not spicey, like Alchemy’s, just milky, very sweet tea. So here is me, toasting Chai, knee deep in the crazy buzz of an Indian film set. – cheers!
So two ordinary chai under my belt so far, it was time for something good.
I’m finally in my element - it’s hot and I’m in the wardrobe workshop an (Indian concrete bunker) surrounded by silk saris, jewels, golden braids. We’re madly stitching jewels onto a skirt for the leading lady, a HUGE star here in Bollywood, and she’s due any minute for a fitting……
Then out comes the Indian “boy” carrying a tray laden with six tiny fine bone china cups, edged with an intricate gold Indian design and containing piping hot sweet marsala Chai – I truly was in heaven – thankyou God!!
I will keep posting as they come ... Have a Fantastic day
